Filipinos share Manny's jubilant victory
I have no doubt Manny will win and indeed he won. Boxing is a game of advertising and drama. The last time I saw him fight was in a gathering of Filipino programmers in Pleasanton with my brother. His co-worker at Peoplesoft then now Oracle had his son’s birthday party. He invited his programmer friends and my brother a big fan of Manny brought along his TV in his friends house and set up it for them so everybody can see the fight. Unfortunately Manny lost to Morales. Everybody were disgusted and we immediately turned off the TV and continued with the get together as they celebrate the party. I said to myself, Filipinos are just really desperate to see new heroes, heroes that that uplift them up amid the poverty wallowing the country, the massive graft and corruption and how GMA has the guts to stand in front of the Filipino people speaking as president when in fact she had rigged the election through massive cheating.
Because Filipinos are desperate to see real heroes they would spend money and time just to visit Manny and watch him do the routine preparatory exercises for the fight. It seems not new, that the ruling classes would use Manny’s popularity to catapult themselves to power, some use it to sustain their waning popularity. So when Manny went home and won the fight against Morales, GMA had only to accommodate him, prepare gimmicks only to grab the attention and ride on Manny popularity. Some politicians who had pockected a lot of peoples money even fly out to Las Vegas and see it for themselves. For me, Manny is a typical representative of Filipino identity. He is the person that every poor Filipino can identify with. He has fought his way out of poverty just like a lot of Filipino Overseas Contract Workers (OFWs) who left the country just to earn money inorder to send their children to school and bring home the beacon, to the working classes whose everday life is to fight poverty, the jeepney drivers in Manila, the peasants in the rural areas who had to work in big plantations when its season time to plant sugarcanes and other export crops by corporations and the rest of the poor working classes, teachers, government employees.
Manny’s victory is seen as the victory of Filipinos indeed in a situation when Filipinos had been knocked downed many times with opportunist political grabbers, the likes of GMA.

It require a good combination of forces, in and outside. Presently, as things goes it is the silence that bothers Arroyo, the direction that people wants, a the transition government. It bothers even Gen. fidel Ramos since it means an opportunity for the poor to overhual key areas in the economy that benefited so much his patrons and clients. As of this wrting I do not know what Capt. Nic is after.
No reshuffling and change of point person in key administrative areas in government such as the DILG and the chief of staff can stop the growing anger and determination of the masses of people. If GMA believes that with
So there you go. The
General Fidel Ramos is mad with what the junior officers did, escape from GMA's prison walls. The possibility of patriotic soldiers coming together to oust his client upsets his whole gameplan. His cha-cha manuever to let GMA's rule, with himself as the Prime Minister is in the brink of being trashed out. On the other hand with all these ,we now see junior officers more political astute having a clear political positiion against GMA's regime. Ramos
